There are many ways to detect normal and malignant moles. The signals in detecting malignant moles are usually the changes in the pattern of moles. Changes in size, color, shape and border could indicate that moles had gone bad and should be removed. Mole removal is the only solution to deal with malignant moles. Normal moles are usually harmless and the person can have this from birth and may develop as he grows. Malignant moles on the other hand are generally the ones that that had emerged from the person’s skin due to environmental factor.

Detecting malignant moles can be determined first by visual inspection and with the use of dermatoscope. If any melanoma is suspected a skin sample taken from the area will be sent to the lab for pathological test. The so-called "ABCD"s of detecting melanoma should be known. Asymmetry that stands for A means that both half sides of the moles should be the same. B for Border means that any jagged border or rough edge is not good. C for color means that the moles should not have more than one color. If you have red and black colors altogether, these are malignant moles. D that stands for diameter means that the mole should not become bigger than 6 millimeter across which is about the size of a pencil eraser. Any indication stated here is a warning sign that you should have your malignant moles removed.

It may sound confusing and knowing that you do not have a history of skin cancer in the family, yet you are you getting this type of problem. This type of skin cancer is due to the environmental conditions especially too much exposure of the skin to UV rays. It might not be hereditary but the strong UV rays become the root cause of the skin cancer in our society. People who work outdoors and not protecting their skin by wearing proper clothing and sunscreen lotions are more vulnerable to getting this problem.

Skin cancer is treatable if it is diagnosed promptly. Once the risk is proven the doctor will remove the malignant moles using various techniques including traditional surgery, cryosurgery, electro surgery and laser surgery. The procedure is aggressive and will require a local anesthesia and performed at the doctor’s office. After the removal of malignant moles the skin will heal in about 2 weeks and possible scarring in the area but will eventually go away.

The options in removing malignant moles can be discussed with your dermatologist and depending on what choice you made you are entitled to it. You also need to know the risks after the procedure is completed. Once your skin is treated and no more malignant moles are present you have to continue protecting your skin from the sun. Although recurrence is rare but you may have to go through the same procedure again if you don’t take care of the skin. The procedure is not only painful but it can be expensive.
