Moles in your Armipit

It is natural for someone to have benign moles anywhere in the skin. Armpit moles could appear as benign skin mark under non-sun exposed area of the body. Skin moles usually grow in the highly exposed areas of the skin such as the back, neck, face, legs but it could appear in the least exposed areas such as bottom of the feet, palms of the hand, genital area, in between fingers and underarm. The problem with armpit moles is that it is not given so much attention as it is hidden in the underarm.

Moles that are found in the areas such as armpits and groins should be examined carefully to check if these moles show significant change in size, shape, color, appearance and texture. Because armpit moles can be suspicious and since it lie closer to the lymph nodes these are the areas could initiate the spread of cancer cells to other parts of the body if not given important consideration.

Armpit moles may vary in color, shape and sizes and should not be more than a size of a pencil eraser. If the armpit moles grow larger and demonstrate soreness in the lesions, itches, and are painful you have to see a doctor. Armpit moles should not be an issue if it does not affect the lymphatic tissue around it. The lymph nodes take care of the bacteria, viruses and cancer cells and prevent it from spreading. The cancer cells has affected the lymph nodes the lymph nodes should be removed in a surgical procedure called lymphadenectomy. This prevents the spread and cancer to advance to a higher stage.

When armpit moles are suspicious of becoming a melanoma a biopsy is generally required to confirm how far the skin from the underarm is affected. It will also verify the extent of the skin if the melanoma has spread to the lymph nodes. If the armpit moles start itching and become painful see your doctor. If the original color of the armpit moles have changed and become darker it is a sign that these moles are changing and should be monitored closely by you and your doctor. Self-examination without prompt action is useless and the earliest it can be treated, the better the cure.

Any skin moles including armpit moles have negative reactions against UV radiation. Ultraviolet radiation from the sun is one of the major causes of skin cancer. The natural sun radiation as well as the artificial radiation coming from tanning beds is found to be linked with skin melanoma. A person with family history of skin cancer that has armpit moles should closely watch the moles to check for any changes in the growth patterns.
