Herpes 1 also known as HSV-1 is the stain of herpes simplex virus that is most oftentimes associated with oral herpes or cold sores.
Herpes 1 is believed to affect approximately 80+ percent of the entire population over the age of three. This is primarily due to the fact that little is known about the Herpes 1 virus and with so many people brushing off the infectious nature of the herpes 1 virus, by calling it cold sores and believing it is caused by colds of flu, they are more likely to spread the herpes 1 virus by kissing their loved ones and family members.
Herpes 1 is showing a stronger impact on society in recent years in the form of genital herpes. The fact that herpes 1 can be transmitted when there are no signs of lesions or outbreaks makes it a phantom virus of sorts. It can attack and/or be transmitted at any given time. The herpes 1 virus is transmittable genitally via common acts of oral sex.
Herpes 1 genital infections are growing in numbers because of the common misconception that oral sex is safe sex. It is not!
The only true way of knowing whether you carry the herpes 1 virus is to be tested properly. Standard std screening does not include herpes testing.
Talk to your physician or healthcare provider to insure you know exactly what you have or what you are capable of passing on to others.
