The herpes virus is an infectious sub cellular particle.  The herpes virus resides in the DNA of the nucleus of a cell.  The DNA, or genetic material, is surrounded by a protein or lipoprotein “coat”.  This hull protects the nucleic acid and also provides, in different ways, for the herpes virus’ ability to invade other cells. 

The herpes virus is an independent genetic system that takes over the cell’s machinery, causing it to synthesize virus-protein and virus-nucleic acid.  The herpes virus is not an organism.  Herpes can only replicate itself in a living host cell, which being infected, produces new virus-nucleic acid and according to that blueprint synthesizes the envelope proteins.  Their replication within the living cell and transfer through infection cause characteristic reactions in the host cell and in the host organism.

Experience and research suggest that certified organic essential oils that contain strongly nucleophilic (citral) constituents are most effective in treating diseases caused by hulled viruses like herpes. Particular effectiveness to neutralize herpes has also been found with certified organic essential oils with a built in synergy of terpene alcohols.
