Molluscum is a viral infection that only occurs in the skin, it is not systemic like other viruses like herpes.
The US National Library of Medicine states that molluscum contagiosum is caused by a virus that is a member of the Poxvirus family. The virus is called Molluscipoxvirus Molluscum contagiosum.
This is a common infection, especially in children. It is frequently seen on the neck, face, arms, arm pits and hands but may occur anywhere on the body, with the exception of the palms and soles. Occasionally, it is seen on the genitals as well.
In adults, molluscum is usually seen on the genitals as the result of a sexually-transmitted disease. Because molluscum produces no life threatening, serious illness, it has not been treated like other STDs. The importance is significant in the increasing population of immunocompromised people with AIDS,who may develop a rapidly worsening case of molluscum contagiosum.
Typically, molluscum begins as a small papule which may become raised up to a flesh colored node. The papule often has a small dimple in the middle. These papules may appear in lines where the person has scratched their skin. Scratching and irritation causes the virus to spread in a line, in groups or in crops.
Molluscum contagiosum is a infection and lesions may continue from a few months to several years. These lesions ultimately disappear with no sign of scarring. Early lesions on the genitalia may be misdiagnosed as herpes or warts, but molluscum lesions are painless.
This virus is contagious through direct contact, which is visible in children, but can also be spread by sexual interaction. It can spread on a person from lesions to contacted normal skin areas.
Using Molluscum No More
Apply about 3 drops directly to molluscum and dab into skin with a cotton ball or swab. If covering larger areas, moisten cotton ball and apply 6 drops to a swab. Dab moistened swab to all areas where molluscum is present. Apply 2-3 times per day externally. Don't use near your eyes.

To Whom it May Concern: When my daughter got a small weird rash on her bottom in June I didn't really think anything of it, but when it started to spread and wouldn't go away after three months I was desperate to try anything. Her Doctor didn't know what it was so she sent us to a dermatologist who told us it was Molluscum. I asked him if there was anything to do for it and he said cut them off which is painful and did not recommend that for my daughter since she is only a kid. He said "Let it run it's course." I asked about any natural at-home things we can do and he laughed and said "there are so many companies out there looking to make a buck-just let it run it's course." I couldn't live with that. My life changed drastically in July of 2005 when I was told I had contracted the STI Molluscum Contagiosum. I was devastated and unsure of what to do. I was given Aldara for treatment and I have been using this cream since July to cure the STI, to my disappointment though, it has not been working. Nature givith Nature takith away. I was completely skeptical of this. I had my mollscum in my pubic region frozen off twice and it was painful and days later new sores would form. THIS STUFF WORKS. two - three times a day and it has not only not reoccured yet but the scarring from the freezing is diminishing rapidly, and the untreated molluscum has gone away. Since i have to live with this virus i plan on always keeping a supply of this stuff. The scent is strong but not a bad scent.

Essential oils found in Molluscum No More were tested in a placebo-controlled study of molluscum contagiosum virus (MCV) infection in HIV negative children in the US. Medical researchers concluded that application of the essential treatment reduced the number of MCV skin lesions by 90% in nine of 16 children treated with the essential oils. Among the 15 children who received placebo, there was no significant reduction in MCV lesions. In 12 of these placebo recipients, mollusca lesions either stayed the same or became worse.
